It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time

How do most of us get into the English teaching business. Some by default and others by choice. I cant understand why anybody would do it by choice without first investigating what happens later on. Im glad I failed in that respect. I got started because I was going to Costa Rica with the intention of going to a great little town on the Atlantic side and live on the beach and learn Spanish. I had a one way ticket and $60 so I figured that I would have to learn Spanish and take any job that came along. I had gotten off the plane and checked into a pension. I read the local English newspaper and saw an ad, English teachers wanted. Will train. I thought to myself, Hey, Im a College Graduate. I can do that. I went to the interview and when I walked into the school I saw a group of absolutely gorgeous young women (20s) walking out and when I got in there was an even larger number. This looks like a fun place to work. And it started from there. I had no idea what I was getting into. Now, 25 years later, I am dead broke rumbling around in India, teaching in a Call Center. I have done some interesting stuff and met some great people. I still keep buying or making arrangements to buy Lottery tickets though.
